People from all walks of life have one big concern. This is a universal concern that can be spelled out in just one word. Money. I need money, it is the one thought that occupies a great many people on any given day, usually first thing in the morning. Which is why, of course, most folks do not hesitate another moment to get to the station in double quick time so that they can get to work on time. Because that’s the one solid thing that helps them to bring the bacon in. Or macon, depending on your personal or spiritual persuasion. But the problem with this privilege is that it never seems to be enough. It is not as though you are greedy for more; it’s just that you’ve got big bills to pay.
That’s how life is for most folks today, perhaps you are one of the many. The word was mentioned earlier, and it is not to be taken lightly. To emphasize. In just one word. Privilege. It is a privilege to be able to get up in the morning and go to work. Many of us skip this privilege in the morning but, even so, it is a privilege to be able to get up at the crack of dawn and have a good, hearty breakfast before heading off out of the door. Out the door. Off to work. What a privilege. But of course, many of us wake up some mornings wishing we never had to. The next time you do have such a thought, and the next time you are tempted to phone in sick, do spare a thought.
Spare a thought. That is all that is being asked of you at this time. Do not, for a moment, believe the lie that the many poor folks you see laying about on the dirty streets do not wish for another day just like yours. Many of them are out of work, and they lost everything in the process, not just because they got laid off, they went through some pretty traumatic experiences in their lives. Many of them lost their minds. And just because they are now, let’s just say, pretty crazy, does not mean that they do not want to work. They do. And they are pretty hungry too. Do not for a moment believe the lie that says that all these folks really want to do is have another drink.
Yes, they have developed addictive problems over the years, but many of these poor folks turned to the bottle just to keep warm at night. Do not judge them. Just by thinking of them with some heart tonight, you are already doing something for them, however odd this may seem to you. These are desperate times we are living in, folks. Think about it the next time you do not feel like getting up in the morning.
