| Thor, foaled 1990, out of the ster mare Ciska and sired by the first approved stallion in North America, Laes 278. Thor stands at an even 16 hands, has a glorious mane and feathers, is definitely the older "baroque" style and is one of the oldest souls I have ever met.
I looked for a stud colt good enough to become an approved stallion for 17 years, in this country, in North Europe, and even in South Africa. Every one I thought was good enough I couldn't afford, and the ones I could, I saw flaws that would make stud book approval difficult. Thor came to us from our home state of Pennsylvania, purely by chance, and was the find of a lifetime. I'll tell you the story later. |

| In 1997 Thor was presented to the German judges to be examined, keured, for studbook entry for the FPZV. He was successful in that examination and was invited to the 50 day stallion performance testing which he also successfully completed, attaining permission to breed purebred mares with the FPZV that same year. | |||

Thor has been in the forefront of the advancement of the breed in many ways. He is the first American Bred, American Born Approved stallion in the US. He has bucked the political system on so many occasions we often wonder what drives him to succeed against all odds. When it was politically unacceptable to be a “German” registered horse in a “Dutch” world Thor carried his German colors proudly. He performed exhibitions and competed successfully while representing the FPZV/FHS. Many sought to take him to task saying his document was sub standard when the FPZV was viewed as a second class entity of horses relegated there as second class. But over the years the performance criteria of the FPZV proved its mettle and the credence our horses sought was won on the competition field. Not second class but in a class by themselves. Thor carried the FPZV banner for 7 years performing as a representative of the breed at equine expositions all across the United States. He was the first contact for so many new aficionados of the breed it is accurate to say he greeted more first time visitors than any other horse in the breed in this country. Now there is a new entity on the horizon, and new registry to represent the breed, The Friesians of America, the FOA. Thor has always been on the cutting edge of the political scene within the Friesian breed, so when he was the first to step up to the plate and move his registration to the FOA it was no surprise. After all, he was American bred, American born why shouldn’t he be American registered. The difficulty of being on the cusp of change is no stranger to us, so we will bow our heads and get to work to make the FOA succeed just as we worked to make the FHS succeed, service to the breed, in the name of a horse, a magnificent horse. Thor is the anchor of the "Totally Friesian" exhibition troupe, exhibiting all across the country, from California to Massachussets. He has performed in virtually every evening musical presentation at every major equine exposition in the US, from Equitana, to the Equine Affaire, The Horse World Expo, The Carolina Classic, and many more. |

Thor has turned out to be everything I ever wanted in a Friesian, both as a sire and as a friend, and I can tell you unequivicaly that the biggest thing about him is his heart, he will give you anything in the world. We know him as Bubba, and as family. |
